Rounders is definately my favorite one!

Plus, two of my favorite actors take the lead roles in the movie - Matt Damon and Edward Norton.

Short Movie Review:

Set against the backdrop of New York's high-stakes underground poker world, Roundersis the tale of Mike McDermott, a master card player who trades the poker-playing rounds for law school and a shot at a new life with his girlfriend Jo. For Mike, the new life he's staking out seems like a legitimate road to success, but it's short on the thrills and excitement of back room poker games. But when Mike's longtime friend Worm is released from prison, Mike is faced with the high-stakes dilemma of his life: to keep on the straight and narrow, or deal himself back into the world of the Rounders.

Rounders also stars John Malkovich as the seedy Russian card shark Teddy KGB, who runs the biggest and most dangerous game in town; John Turturroas Joey Knish, Mike's old-time poker mentor, and Martin Landau as Professor Petrovsky, Mike's law school dean. As the stakes rise, each one of these men also deals a hand in Mike's ultimate fate.

Top Three Poker Movies

Poker is one of the most popular subjects for a movie and casinos are a favoured setting for a Hollywood blockbuster. There are many poker movies that can be attributed to viewers finding the inspiration to start playing the game.

One of the most inspirational poker movies that came out and started a major trend in people taking up the game was the 1998 film Rounders, starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton. Damon plays a law school student who swears off poker and turns his life around, only to get sucked back in when his so called friend Worm played by Norton creeps back into his life. Damon ends up deeply in debt to a Russian crime boss, played brilliantly by John Malkovich. This film is referred to by many as the catalyst for the huge boom in poker players in recent years.

The Cincinnati Kid is an all time classic poker movie that appeals to both film lovers and poker players alike. Steve McQueen is the ultimate hero, tough as old boots and as cool as a cucumber and of course he makes a mean poker player. McQueen plays Eric Stoner the main character in Norman Jewison's 1965 classic, who comes to New Orleans in the 1930s to prove himself at the poker table and with the ladies. He pits his wits against the reigning poker king of the town in a high-stake game while juggling the advances of two beauties.

Our third poker movie won't teach you anything about the game but is great fun to watch. Maverick, starring Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and James Garner is set in the olden day wild west and Mel Gibson's character Maverick, travels with the original maverick (James Garner) to the biggest tournament of the day, a winner takes all event. Along the way they meet a feisty female gambler (Jodie Foster) and get into all sorts of scrapes.

Poker movies are a great way to get into the spirit of poker playing. They often show another side of the game that most players don't experience and they are a great way to give gamers the confidence to try their luck in a more ambitious poker environment.

Yup. It's definitely the most famous poker movie and the best! Some of the young poker elite claims that this movie brought them to the poker world.

I saw Lucky You, All In, Shade, and Rounders. The best for me is Rounders, but All in is good too.

Plot summary for All-in:
"As a young girl, Alicia "Ace" Anderson (Swain) had been taught the fine art and the mathematical probabilities of Texas Hold-em poker by the father she adored. But that world came to an end when her father was taken from her in a fatal auto accident. Years later, as she enters medical school, she will need to call upon the skills her father taught her as she struggles with the rigorous medical training, mounting financial pressures and the seamier side of medicine. Her friends and fellow students combine their unique talents and skills to produce a team who may well be the ultimate poker machine. But as the stakes in both the casinos and the operating room continue to rise, Ace comes to understand what her father taught her: in order to really live, you need to go all in. "

Deal is a 2007 drama film starring film actor Burt Reynolds, with Bret Harrison, and Shannon Elizabeth. The film, currently in post-production, tells the story of a former poker player (Reynolds) who tutors a younger player (Harrison). The film's climax is a fictional World Poker Tour championship.

World Poker Tour commentators Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patten and Courtney Friel play themselves. A number of other professional poker players and poker-playing celebrities, including Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker and Isabelle Mercier are in the cast.
