Pocket Kk And A On The Flop - What To Do

Analyze poker hands and ask advice on what you should have done in a situation.

I was dealt KK and raised preflop, so i´m only in with one other player who played very agressively till now.
The flop has an Ace in it.
I´m first to act - i bet about a pot size bet - he calls.
Turn (nothing to help me or him) - i check, he checks.
River - i bet pot size, he calls.

Needless to say he has the Ace.

I know, i made a mistake with the bet on the river, or even on the flop, but how would u play this?
Thanks.

Personally, I now approach this situation carefully. A couple of years back I would probably have followed the same pattern as you - Played it aggressively, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, pocket kings is a strong hand to be dealt.

However, the flop is where things can get sticky, and you shouldn't be afraid of laying down a hand, even one as strong as that. Your gut instinct probably told you that he had the ace, looking at your outs you probably knew you needed a king or you'd blown it.

I would have played it in one of two ways - One, folded and told myself that I'd just saved myself a few chips, or perhaps gone in with a much higher bet (depending on how commited I was to the put) in an attempt to put him off. If the player had previously been strong, I would probably have folded, but if I sensed any weakness, the bluff might have been worth it.
