Generally speaking, it doesn't matter if you win because of the flop or because of the river. The A9 vs. 88 was a conflip and that's all you can say about the hand. Since you moved in preflop, you can't calculate the odds that you had after the turn and before the river. That's simply because otherwise the preflop odds wouldn't be correct. I'll try to be more clear: 88 vs. A9 has a 57% winning chance preflop simply because it wins 981862 times out of the possible 1712304 combinations from the flop till the river. If we'd take the river separately, the 57/43 wouldn't be correct anymore. As a result, the fact that you won the hand because of the river doesn't matter at all.

Of course, that was a mathematician speaking - in real life it's obviously much more devastating to lose the pot because of the river, rather than because of the flop :)

OMG the amazing lucky river was today...

4 players, including me, went all-in in preflop.

the flop K,3,Q,3...
I had QQ
Next one AA
Another JJ
And last one 55

Guess whats the RIVER card :)

Sure it was an A damn that poker...

Too bad justice is not always present when you move all in with AA and lose to some other pocket pair if your opponent catches a set or even some unbelievable lucky straight .
