Family Guy Gets Sued

The FOX series is taken to court over a parody of a classic song.

October 4, 2007 - FOX's The Family Guy is being sued for a parody of the classic song "When You Wish Upon a Star." According toe E! Online, the lawsuit, brought by Bourne Co., the owner of the rights to the Oscar winning song, alleges that the parody used by the Seth McFarlane-run series damages the song's status as a "cultural treasure epitomizing the wonders of childhood."

In the episode, Peter Griffin sings "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" in an episode called "I Need a Jew." The episode focuses around Peter's desire to get his finances in order and, for this, he feels the need to obtain the services of a Jewish accountant. This plays on obvious stereotypes and is typical of Griffin's behavior on the series. While FOX has not yet commented on the lawsuit, similar lawsuits have been thrown out due to laws protecting parody. In fact, a recent lawsuit brought against the show by Carol Burnett was thrown out with the judge citing First Amendment protection for parody.

OMG this is stupid, Family Guy is one of my favorite.
