Now online gambling. What will be next, a ban on out of country travel?
But we regress. This is about online gambling and poker. First off is poker really gambling? This is taken from webster's dictionary for gambling:
Quote:
an undertaking in which success is dependent on chance
Ok, how many people believe poker is a game of chance? Do you know any lousy poker players that can consistantly make money playing it? What about the very good players. Ever played at tables with some of the better players and noticed they almost always seem to have BIG stacks?
Fact is, no matter how much luck a lousy player gets he will come out a loser in time. And no matter how little luck a talented player gets he always seems to come out ahead. Poker is 'not a game of chance'. It is a game of skill! Therefor for starters this new law should not even include poker which just goes to show how little actual intelligence was used while writing it. This has nothing to do with gambling and is only all about 'MONEY'.
You see the bottom line is it's not your money. You may have earned it doing whatever it is you do and gotten paid but the money you get is looked at by the government as theirs and you are only holding it in trust for them. The catch here is every dollar earned and spent inside the US gets taxed over and over again until basically all of it has returned to the government via taxes. Lets say you earn a dollar. After taxes you take home say 75 cents. You use your 75 cents to say, buy pencils. The store that sold you the pencils gets taxed on the profit, the supplier they bought them from also gets taxed on the profit, same for the manufacturer, the wood supplier, lead supplier etc. When any portion of the 75 cents you received leaves the country the tax process stops. So to keep that from happening they create laws or bans so you only spend money on what is acceptable to them.
Now you know why I asked if out of country travel will be the next freedom to go. And boy there are many other things that will/could be affected in the future. 'Land of the Free' is no longer a fact. It is now just a slogan to keep you and me believing it's so.
Online poker rooms are all based outside the US because the law does not allow them to be based here. Yet casino's with poker rooms, lotteries, horse racing (many now with slot machines) and other forms of land based gambling are all legal. And the reason is tax dollars. Yet many online gambling sites have pleaded to be regulated and even taxed in the US and have been rebuffed outright. Why, because they must feel there is a way for them to get the lions share of the money involved. And until/if they figure that out they want you to do without.
Stop people from gambling? Come on now. Everything in life is gambling. You go to school gambling you'll get a better paying job. You go to work and gamble you don't get into an accident traveling or preforming your job. Every member in the armed forces gambles with their life every day. You're gambling every time you have sex as to whether you may contact some disease, get pregnant or not get pregnant. You gamble when buying a used car that it's not a lemon. Heck even every politician is gambling hoping to get elected but you can't gamble online! Give me a break....
Soon to be the fastest growing (for lack of a better term) profession in the US, Bookie. Fastest growing business, back room poker parlors. All these cut off people will need to go somewhere.
